Conflicting reports have Drake either getting arrested before his New York show Saturday night (June 16) or not getting arrested at all for his role in a nightclub brawl earlier in the week with fellow artist Chris Brown.
Early Saturday morning, the New York Post reported that Drake is expected to be arrested and charged with reckless endangerment. The New York City tabloid added that if Drizzy doesn’t agree to surrender to the New York Police Department during tonight’s NYC concert of his Club Paradise Tour, then cops may arrest him during the concert.
Despite the report, TMZ is saying that Drake is not facing arrest for his role in the Chris Brown melee, adding that law enforcement sources told them that cops have “no suspects, complaints or arrest warrants at this time.”
When XXLMag.com contacted the NYPD on Saturday morning, police declined to confirm either report, a spokesperson only saying that “right now there are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing. There’s no telling what the future will hold.”
Earlier in the week, however, the NYPD did tell XXLMag.com that arrests are still possible.
“Pending on what the investigation comes up with, there may be arrests, there may not be arrests,” NYPD spokesperson Sgt. Rodriguez said.
Thursday, the NYPD confirmed with XXLMag.com that Brown indeed talked to them about the incident, adding that Drake intended to schedule an interview as well.
All of this stems from Drake allegedly flashing the middle finger over to Brown’s camp at NYC’s W.I.P. nightclub on Wednesday night (June 13). That reportedly set off trash talking between the two artists’ entourages and that of Meek Mill’s, spilling into a wild bottle-throwing brawl, in which Meek reportedly hit Brown with a bottle, opening a nasty gash on his chin. Brown’s bodyguard, Big Pat, had a huge gash across his forehead and even NBA star Tony Parker suffering an eye injury from shards of glass from the broken bottles. A 24-year-old female Australian tourist was also hit with a bottle, as one of the people who suffered minor injuries in the all-out brawl.
While Brown and Meek let the public know that they’re cool with each other the day after the incident, the wild melee has taken on legs of its own, with new tidbits to advance the story being introduced daily.
Most recently, Birdman of YMCMB weighed in on the incident, defending his artist, Drake.
“Well, to me, I think niggas got Drake twisted,” Birdman told MTV News. “A lot of niggas be playin’, pitty-pattin’ with Drake. I don’t like that shit, period. Drake is one of us, so if you fuckin’ with Drake, you fuckin’ with us, period!”
“To me, Drizzy ain’t did nothin’ wrong, he ain’t done nothin’ wrong to nobody,” he added. “He just doin’ great music. He’s not a reckless guy out there just wildin’ out; he’s a humble kid makin’ great music.”
Late last month, Drake, Chris Brown and Meek Mill engaged in an all-out Twitter war over Rihanna, who is believed to be the main cause of the friction between the three artists.Mark Lelinwalla
